Canva brings the fictional Rockin' Grandma's Hot Sauce to life with Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat

In Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat, one unsuspecting temporary worker thinks he’s attending a company retreat for Rockin' Grandma's Hot Sauce. Spoiler: He’s not. But the fictional company? It's very real now, thanks to Canva.
Canva is partnering with Amazon to drive brand awareness and new user acquisition by aligning with the highly anticipated second season of Jury Duty, which debuted on Prime Video on March 20. For the premiere, Amazon Ads Brand Innovation Lab worked with Canva to create a custom 30-second company video presentation—made entirely in Canva and narrated by one of the season's stars. The result is a bombastic, fully meta introduction to Rockin' Grandma's, where "employees rock out till they clock out."
"This is about showing, not telling. By bringing the Rockin’ Grandma’s Hot Sauce new hire presentation to life, we’re showing how Canva empowers small businesses to turn even the wildest ideas into reality in a way that feels incredibly immersive and entertaining," said Frank J. Cortese, Global Head of Brand Media at Canva. "It’s about shifting mindsets, so people see design not as a hurdle, but as an everyday advantage that makes work more impactful and enjoyable."
The campaign spans multiple formats across Prime Video through June 12, including custom clip-based video, co-branded pause ads, tagged tune-ins, and social content on Canva's owned-and-operated platforms. It's Canva's first custom Prime Video sponsorship and their first campaign with Brand Innovation Lab—a first-of-its-kind co-branded content campaign that brings the show's improvisational, lightning-in-a-bottle energy to life while showcasing how Canva empowers creative collaboration for companies and regular people alike.
"The best advertising doesn't feel like advertising—it feels like you're in on the joke," said Kate McCagg, Global Head of Amazon Ads Brand Innovation Lab. "By weaving Canva into the Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat universe, we're not just reaching audiences during a cultural moment—we're letting them participate in it. When viewers see that Rockin' Grandma's presentation was made entirely in Canva, they're not thinking 'that's an ad.' They're thinking 'I could do that.'"
The activation extends beyond streaming, with Canva integrated into the Jury Duty cultural moment through promotion at pre-finale and post-finale events featuring on-site branding, seamlessly connecting the brand with one of the season's most anticipated entertainment moments.
Is the ad voiced by an actor in character? Or an actor in character playing an actor in character? Let's just say the lines are delightfully blurred, and that's exactly the point. After all, the best campaigns don't just tell stories, they invite you into worlds you didn't know you needed to visit.
